We shared some of the best tips on our Facebook page.
Where to stay
Two Hutchinson hotels are holding blocks of rooms for us:
Mention that you are with the “State of Now Conference.”
You can also consider any one of these area hotels and B&B’s.
NEW! Unconference Wednesday!
People have been coming up with extra topics we can’t fit into Thursday, so we’re offering some extra time Wednesday from 4 to 6pm at the Fairfield Inn conference room. Attendees can put forward topics, decide which ones they want to hear, and then those selected can present. Anyone can suggest a talk, so bring your burning topics that we didn’t address on the main event schedule. We’ll record them and play the best during lunchbreak on the livestream Thursday.
We know that not everyone will be able to get to Hutch in time. Just arrive when you can, and come on in.
Right at 6pm, we’ll all trek over to the Kansas Underground Salt Museum together for the reception.
Two receptions are open to all 140 Conference attendees. Light refreshments will be served and a cash bar will be available. This is a chance for all attendees to get together and talk, outside the conference. Wine Sisterhood is providing us some wines for the receptions. Cheers!
On Wednesday evening, November 7, a reception is planned at 6 p.m., at the Kansas Underground Salt Museum.
On Thursday night immediately following the 140 Conference, a reception will be held at the Kansas Cosmosphere.
VIP & Speakers Dinner
Wednesday evening, November 7, a VIP and speakers dinner will be held at the Airport Steakhouse. It is by invitation for holders of VIP tickets, speakers and other special guests. Dinner will start around 8 p.m.
On Thursday, November 8, 2012, doors will open at 8:00 am. Sessions will begin at 8:30am, and run through 5:30 pm.
Breakfast is on your own.
The Fox Theatre concession stand will sell water and soft drinks during the day.
A box lunch will be provided on site, included in your ticket. Please let us know by email if you have special meal needs.
Wifi will be provided by Hutchnet Wireless, but as always at events like this, is subject to ups and downs.
Personal wifi and mifi are allowed, as long as they do not interfere with the main wifi coverage. We will post which channels you may use to minimize interference.
Come prepared to share
We want you to create content and share the conversation. That means yes, bring your video camera. Bring your camera. Interview each other. Tweet and blog during the event.
The official conference live-stream show will be on the 140Conference Ustream channel. We will be recording all sessions with multiple cameras this year, and hope to avoid major technical glitches!
No live-streaming of video by audience members is allowed, because it will kill our bandwidth.
Getting to Hutch
If you’re driving, Hutchison is about 35 miles northwest of Wichita, Kansas. (Google Map) We’d like to promote ride-sharing. If you’re willing to share your drive with others, please enter your details on the Ride Share Form.
If you are flying in the nearest international airport is Wichita, Kansas, about 35 minutes away. You’ll probably want to plan to rent a car, or catch a ride with someone who does.
If you are flying in to Wichita airport, please enter your flight details at http://goo.gl/M3db and we’ll try to find you a ride to Hutch. No promises, but we are trying!
If you want an adventure, take the train. No, not a train from the airport, a train across country! The Amtrak station is right downtown, and the Southwest Chief makes daily stops there. The Chief comes from Chicago and Kansas City from the east, or Albuquerque from the west, with lots of little stops in between. It’s not terribly handy that the stops at Hutch are in the middle of the night, though. Interested in getting together a group to make the train trip together?
The Historic Fox Theatre is located at 18 East 1st Ave., Hutchinson, KS 67501. It is a lovely 1920′s era theatre, fully restored.
Extra power outlets will be provided in the main seating area.
Temperature will likely vary during the day, so come prepared to be warm or cool, or both.
A special thank you to the Fox Theatre staff for all their work to make this an outstanding event!
